Loren Bowen: Cello

Grew up in Durban, Natal. and graduated at the University of Natal with a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Music Education.

Loren started learning piano at the age of 5 and then started the cello at the age of 9. At about 9 years old Loren started playing in the Natal Youth Orchestra and then later on in the Durban City orchestra.

She conceptualized and implemented the first keyboard laboratory in Kwa-zulu Natal. The lab was successful in that it facilitated group piano lessons in a classroom environment with the use of piano-touch keyboards and headphones. This project was the subject of her dissertation at the University of Natal, Durban

Loren has produced and performed cello in many musicals and shows, including the Barnyard theatre in Durban and other venues and has also recorded cello parts for various artists.

She has taught private piano and cello lessons since 1992 and from 1996 until now has also been involved with teaching class music, choir, ensemble groups, and of course school plays and music shows at various schools in Durban, London and more recently Cape Town.

Her passion outside of the world of music is swimming having qualified as an Aqua-Aerobics instructor. Other interests are gardening and art.




Tanya Markowitsch: Piano

Tanya has always been musical. She has been singing since age 3 and she has played the piano, recorder and the guitar throughout her school career.

After graduating from AFDA Cape Town with a BA in live performance and film composition, she continued to study musicology with Classical Guitarist Avril Kinsey, where she obtained her ATCL through Trinity College London.

As a passionate musician, Tanya has performed in various bands which range from classical, folk,hard rock and punk.She also sang in the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town.
She believes that the more versatile you can be as a musician, the better. She spent a lot of time performing with various bands around the country and has played local festivals as well as performed in musicals. She is now proud to make her debut in performing light jazz with Strings Attached.

She teaches piano, singing, guitar and recorder to children and is currently working on developing interesting and fun teaching resources to be used in music classes.
